Search Engine Listings

Search engines (Google, MSN, etc.) are the first place many potential customers will go to find your website. Searchers may look for your business specifically, or search using keywords related to the products or services you offer. Therefore, it is critical that your website be listed in the top search engines used by most searchers. We can guide your business through the process of search engine submissions, including the following:

  • Free submission to the top engines
  • Free submissions to general directories
  • Paid review submission to general directories
  • Industry-specific directory listings (when available)

Free Submissions to top engines

There are a number of top search engines used for the majority of web searches. These include:

  • Google, and its partner, Go.com
  • Yahoo, including AltaVista, AllTheWeb and Overture
  • MSN
  • AOL, including AOL Search and Netscape Search
  • Excite, including the Ask Jeeves-owned Excite Network, iWon, MyWay.com and My Web Search
  • Ask, including Ask Jeeves and Teoma.

We can insure that your website will be submitted to each of these search engines.

Free submissions to general directories

In addition to search engines, many searches are performed on directories, which, unlike search engines, are sorted by category with similar sites grouped together. These directories include Yahoo!, DMOZ (populated by the Open Directory Project), LookSmart, and Zeal.

Paid review submission to general directories

Non-commercial sites can be added to most directories for free. However, for commercial sites that rely on traffic from directories, there are some options.  A few human-edited directories will now consider your submission quickly for a fee. Express-submit fees are $299 for Yahoo!, which guarantees it will review your site (not that it will include it) within 7 business days of submission. The $299 fee is charged annually if your site is accepted into the directory.

Industry-specific directory listings

In addition to general directories, there are a number of specialty directories for certain industries, such as legal, medical, jobs, multimedia, news, and many more. If we are able to identify a specialty search engine for your site, we will recommend registration.
